Butter

Number of times butter is mentioned in the post below: 11

But that's how important butter is here. Even the crappy stuff you get with your fast food is really good!

Croissants

Plain croissants come in two different flavors in Paris: regular and butter. I made the assumption that the butter one would be the equivalent of getting your meal super-sized, like maybe each butter croissant has a whole stick of butter baked in.

Since I just happened to be at a cafe one morning, and hadn't had my daily recommended servings of butter yet, I decided to sacrifice my waist size in the interest of science and do a taste test. In the picture at right, the darker croissant is the butter one, and it's paler neighbor, just a plain, old, everyday croissant (which in the interest of full disclosure, are really, really buttery already).

The results: After eating one of each, I have to say that they taste the same: deliciously buttery. I do think they soak the butter one in...you know...butter...to give it a darker, crispier texture when it's baked.

Overall, thumbs up for both. But I did have to eat an eclair afterwards to neutralize the butter flavor.
